Toothpaste is available in countless variations and in every price range. The individual toothpaste manufacturers advertise the respective benefits of their product, but which toothpaste is actually the best and what is important in a good toothpaste?
Toothpaste basically consists of the following substances: 75% humectants and water, 20% abrasives, 2% foaming propellants and flavourings, 2% acid buffers, 1.5% colourants and binders and 0.25% fluoride. The percentages are average values.
Toothpaste is used to remove plaque from the teeth, counteract tooth decay, strengthen the enamel, make the teeth clean and shiny and freshen the breath.
Some toothpaste products contain bleaching agents to make teeth look whiter, while others contain pyrophosphates to prevent plaque build-up. In general, however, the main active ingredient in a toothpaste is fluoride. As long as a toothpaste contains fluoride, the brand or consistency does not play a major role. Every tooth gel and toothpaste with fluoride effectively combats plaque and tooth decay and cleans the teeth. Furthermore, you can be guided by your personal taste.
Special toothpaste for particularly sensitive teeth often contains mild soothing agents and can actually soothe the nerve pain caused by hot or cold, but otherwise has the same cleaning effect as other products.
