It is easier to maintain your figure through fitness and nutrition if you are of normal weight. Overweight people often find it difficult to get started. Here are some tips for overweight people on how to get started with fitness and weight loss.

1. before you start your fitness programme, don't be so hard on yourself.

At the beginning of the fitness programme, you will notice that your muscles ache, you sweat a lot and you get out of breath quickly. You will feel uncomfortable and tend to give up more quickly. Look at everything you do and set out to do with the right understanding and compassion for yourself. The quickest way to fail is to put yourself down and hate yourself for what you haven't achieved. Guilt will not help you grow internally and become emotionally stronger.

Sport and fitness is something that can be built up and improved slowly. Start with fitness because you want to do yourself a favour, not out of self-hatred for your current state.

2. the lifestyle must be learnt.

You become overweight through an unhealthy lifestyle that cannot be changed overnight. You will also find it difficult to suddenly start exercising every day. Don't take on too much at once, because that is also unhealthy. Give yourself time to enjoy your new-found exercise and learn it slowly.

3. find a sport that is fun.

If you don't like the gym, there's no point torturing yourself there every day. Instead, find a form of fitness that you enjoy. This could be a simple walk, swimming or cycling, for example, or sports programmes on the games console.

4 Focus on the moment and don't set your goals too high.

If your goals are set too high and are unattainable, you will inevitably experience disappointment. And every disappointment and negative experience is a reason to give in to your inner bastard and fall back into your old way of life. Make your goals smaller and more unattainable so that you experience a sense of achievement.

5. listen to your body.

Your body will give you feedback as to whether you are taking on too much. To avoid jeopardising your health, you should pay attention to your body's signs and react accordingly. Painful and unenjoyable fitness will quickly exhaust your courage and motivation.

Observe the direct result on your body. Weight loss or visibly reduced fat rolls are the best motivator to keep going.

Jogging is one of the best ways to lose weight and get fit, but for overweight people it can backfire. If you start panting and sweating after a few metres and your knees hurt, this will reduce your motivation. Find an activity that is not so hard to do at the beginning.

5. do not go on a drastic diet.

Changing your diet is good and important, but it should not be too drastic if it is to be long-term. Diets can make you lethargic and irritable. So it's better to start with a gradual reduction in calories without going hungry.

6. find a partner or a group.

Together you can achieve your goals better and you can build each other up morally. It's best to find like-minded people who understand your problems and can help you succeed. If you help other overweight people to succeed, this will also have an extremely motivating effect on you.
