Nuts are often avoided because of their fat content in diets and cholesterol problems. However, it has been proven that nuts lower blood lipid levels.
It does not matter which nuts are eaten. Brazil nuts, peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds and cashews all have the same effect on blood lipid levels. Around 70 grams of unsalted and unroasted nuts significantly reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
A diet with nuts is particularly favourable for slim people with high LDL cholesterol levels (the "bad" cholesterol) and for people who eat a lot of fast food and Western food. Nuts are a good snack between meals or as a nibble while watching TV instead of the usual chocolate bars and potato crisps.
