A foot bath can have different effects depending on how it is used. Not only the feet themselves, but the whole body benefits from a correctly applied foot bath.
There are cold foot baths, warm or hot foot baths, alternating foot baths and ascending foot baths.
Any tub can be used for a footbath as long as both feet fit comfortably and the rim reaches as far as the calves.
Cold foot bath
A footbath in cold water is used to treat foot fatigue, fullness of blood in the head, nosebleeds or constipation. A cold footbath should not be used for circulatory disorders in the brain, cramps or bladder problems.
The feet should be well warmed up before they are placed in the cold water. Leave your feet in the cold water for about 2 minutes until your feet have either become accustomed to the temperature or the cold feels uncomfortable. After the footbath, only dry your feet slightly, dress them warmly and warm them up by moving them around
Warm foot bath
A warm foot bath usually has a certain herbal oil added to it for the targeted treatment of specific complaints. After bathing in lukewarm water, the feet are rinsed with cold water.
Hot foot bath
Bathing the feet in hot water helps against chronically cold feet, insomnia, skin inflammation, localised inflammation, weak feet, sweaty feet, flat feet, sore throats and ear infections. An additive is usually added to the water. The water temperature should be 38-40 degrees and the feet remain in the water for 10-15 minutes.
Alternating foot bath
Alternating foot baths help against cold feet, headaches, insomnia, nervousness and excitability. 8-10 minutes in warm water, then immediately switch to cold water for 8-10 minutes. Change 2-3 times and finish with cold water.
Rising foot bath
For colds with fever, sore throats, bronchitis, high blood pressure, bronchial asthma, gout, arthritis, vascular spasms, sciatic pain and walking disorders, foot baths with increasing water temperature are effective. Start at 34 degrees and increase the temperature to 45 degrees over a period of 20 minutes.
