Vinegar socks are a tried and tested household remedy for reducing fever. The vinegar produces evaporative cooling on the skin, which cools the blood and lowers the body temperature.
This is how vinegar stockings are made:
The vinegar water is made from 2 parts water and 2 parts fruit vinegar. If the fever is very high, undiluted fruit vinegar can also be used. Dip cotton socks up to the calf in the vinegar water, wring them out well and put them on. Place a waterproof cover on the bed pad.
Dry woollen socks are put on over the soaked vinegar socks. After about 20 minutes, the socks are removed or changed.
Caution: The sick person must not freeze, so stay nicely under the blanket, but also not overheat.
