MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity) refers to hypersensitivity to chemicals. Toxic substances from our environment can cause a range of symptoms that fall under the heading of MCS.

The best-known environmental toxins

 

Formaldehyde is a component of glues, varnishes, chipboard and foams.

Solvents (benzene, dichloroethane) are found in paints, varnishes, polishes and cleaning agents.

Carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide and sulphur dioxide are produced by heating systems, gas cookers and open ovens.

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), phenol and styrene are found in lubricants and soft plastics.

Radon is found in natural stone, bricks and natural gas.

Dioxin and asbestos may be present in some furniture and wall panelling.
