Wrong nutrition leads to diseases, which is why fasting has been practised since ancient times as a healing method for the organism.
A self-administered fasting cure can last about 7 days; those who wish to fast for a longer period should do so under medical supervision. The fasting cure is divided into three stages: Pre-fasting, full fasting and post-fasting.
Pre-fasting lasts two days and is limited to a light diet and plenty of fluids, especially herbal tea and fruit and vegetable juices. The purpose of pre-fasting is to acclimatise the body to full fasting.
Full fasting lasts 5 days. Solid food is completely avoided and instead lots of water, herbal tea, fruit and vegetable juices are drunk to flush the waste products out of the body.
Post-fasting is the transition phase in which the body gets used to solid food again. During the post-fasting period, foods that are not harmful to the body should be consumed.
During the fasting period, the bowel must be emptied regularly. To support bowel function, it is recommended to drink a tablespoon of Glauber's salt dissolved in a quarter of a litre of warm water every third day of the fasting cure.
