Many parents let their baby co-sleep in their own bed to spend more time with him or her, or out of convenience. Is it advisable to let the baby share the marital bed?
Sufficient sleep
If the baby sleeps in the parents' bed, this requires increased vigilance by at least one parent. This can result in the parents sleeping restlessly or disturbed. Infants turn around during sleep, disturbing the parents. They take up a lot of space, so parents often have to keep things to a minimum. Most of the time, parents are more concerned about the baby's safety than their own sleep.
Love life
To prevent the baby from falling out of bed, it usually sleeps in the middle between the parents. This significantly disturbs the intimacy of the young couple, which is very important for maintaining a healthy love relationship. Unintentionally, one blames the baby for the lack of intimacy.
Health risk
The smaller the baby, the greater the risk of being suffocated or at least overheated by the parents during sleep. The baby could be trapped face down between the pillows.
Bad habits
If the baby is used to feeling the closeness of its parents during sleep, it may have problems falling asleep alone during the day. Conversely, if the parents lie down in bed during the day, the child expects it to do so. This is how unhealthy sleep patterns can form.
