Children usually have inexhaustible energy. So if a child is constantly tired and listless, there could be more to it than that. It is tempting to take advantage of children's tiredness for a while to get some rest yourself, but you should not hesitate to find out the causes.
Possible causes of fatigue in children
Disturbed sleep rhythm
If children go to bed too late or do not sleep well at night, they are naturally tired during the day. It is important that a child goes to bed regularly at the same time in the evening to develop a healthy sleep rhythm. However, children do not always fall asleep immediately when they are in bed, but continue to play in the dark for a while. Therefore, a child should consume enough energy during the day to fall asleep quickly in bed at night. Exercise is just as important as fresh air and sunshine.
If a child spends a lot of time on car rides during the day, he or she is not building up enough energy and should be given a real challenge before bedtime.
Nutrition
Diet often plays an important role. A child who eats fast food high in carbohydrates and fat will get tired about an hour and a half later because the blood sugar level drops rapidly. Too much fast food often causes zinc deficiency, which is one of the main reasons for constant tiredness. Instead of fast food, it is essential that the child eats more vegetables and fruit.
Poor posture
Heavy school bags, poor sitting posture for hours in front of the computer or sitting hunched over while texting strain the back muscles and can thus exhaust the child in the long run. A school bag should not be heavier than 15% of the body weight. Correct the sitting posture for a week until straight sitting becomes natural.
Anaemia
If the child suffers from anaemia due to a lack of nutrients, the red blood cells do not get enough oxygen and the child has little strength. Besides iron deficiency, a lack of vitamin C, vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and folic acid can also lead to anaemia. Almonds are good for the supply of nutrients.
Diseases
Other possible causes of constant fatigue in children can be serious diseases such as congenital muscle weaknesses or cancer. Fortunately, these are rare.
