Heating baby food in the microwave

Baby food and infant formula can be reheated much more quickly and easily in the microwave. Meals or bottles can be prepared in small portions, preventing food from having to be reheated several times.

When heating baby food in the microwave, the temperature should be checked and pre-cooked in the same way as with conventional heating. The consumption temperature for babies is no more than 37 degrees.

For ready-to-eat food in a jar, remove the lid before heating or place an appropriate portion on a plate. After heating, stir the food well so that the temperature is the same everywhere. Do not reheat baby food once it has been heated. Any leftovers in the jar that have not been reheated can be stored in the fridge for three days.

When heating baby food in a bottle, always use microwave-safe containers and only pour the heated food into the baby bottle once it has warmed up. Of course, shake well first to equalise the temperature and check with a thermometer or on your wrist whether the temperature is suitable for the child.

Milk or baby tea that has gone cold should be warmed up in an unsealed container in the microwave.

The microwave is less suitable for sterilising baby bottles and teats, as the length of the cooking time can be better controlled using conventional methods.
