If a child between the ages of 5 and 8 shows signs of being bored at school, it may be that it is an auIt is a case of an exceptionally intelligent child who is already intellectually ahead of his classmates.

 

However, it is also possible that the child simply does not enjoy learning at school and is therefore bored with the tasks.

Even though children often show signs of intellectual giftedness at an early age, it is not usually recognised that they are gifted until they reach school age.

How can you tell that a schoolchild between the ages of 5 and 8 is particularly intelligent?

 

A child may have special intellectual abilities if it

 

- can think abstractly, grasp advanced mathematical and linguistic concepts and talk about complex topics before they have learnt them at school.

 

- has a special talent, e.g. is exceptionally good at mental arithmetic or understands the concept of multiplication and division before it is taught at school.

 

- is able to concentrate intensively on a specific task for several hours.

 

- has an extraordinarily extensive vocabulary.

 

- always takes the lead in group activities with other children.

 

- shows great self-confidence with his achievements and ideas.

 

- school tasks with ease.

 

- is creative, e.g. likes singing, painting or inventing stories.

 

- is humorous and appreciates wit and perspicacity.

 

- prefers to spend his time with adults and older children rather than his peers.

 

- Tasks designed for older children.

 

- considers the feelings of other people.

 

- has a good memory.
