An avocado usually needs one to three days to ripen if it is wrapped in a piece of paper at room temperature. If you don't want to wait that long, the ripening process can be simulated in the microwave. This way, the avocado can be softened in a short time. However, the fruit may lose some of its flavour when heated in the microwave.
First, poke a few holes in the avocado from different sides with a fork. Line a microwave-safe plate with kitchen paper and place the fruit on it. Heat the avocado over medium heat for about 30 seconds. Then check whether the fruit is soft enough. The process is repeated at 30-second intervals until the avocado is soft enough. Ripening an avocado in the microwave is good for making guacamole. If you eat the fruit plain, it can taste a little bland.
Be careful when taking the avocado off the plate, because after only 60 seconds of heating it will be very hot. To be on the safe side, do not microwave the avocado for more than 30 seconds at a time so that it does not burn.
