What is single-origin coffee?

Varietal coffees are coffees that come from a specific geographical location. This can be a specific community, a region, a plantation or a specific blend of coffee beans from just one country that are a symbol of quality thanks to their climate, location and soil.

Usually, single-varietal coffees bear the name of their place of origin.

The respective place of origin of the coffee beans gives varietal coffees from only one geographical location a characteristic flavour. Depending on the location of the coffee plantation and its climatic conditions, each coffee variety has a unique aroma according to its region.

The coffees differ in aroma, acidity, bitterness and fullness. By using different single-origin coffees with certain characteristics, you can create coffee blends with specific aromas. For example, if you blend a Kenyan coffee with a coffee from Ethiopia in the ratio 60% / 40%, you get a coffee with a dense and chocolaty aroma.
