If the skin is overexposed to the sun's rays, it can suffer permanent damage. The skin turns red and hurts (sunburn) and wrinkles form.

Fair-skinned people are generally more sensitive to the harmful UV rays and therefore more at risk, because their skin has less melanin, which absorbs the sun's ultraviolet rays.

The skin forgets nothing, they say, but even with severe damage, there is something that can be done to reduce or even reverse the effects of the damage.

Vitamin A acid (VAS)

Vitamin A acid, also known as tretinoin or retinoic acid, is a vitamin A derivative. It helps to renew skin cells by activating cell division. The dead skin cells in the top layer are replaced.
It is used in the form of creams and ointments to treat skin diseases and skin damage such as sunburn and wrinkles caused by UV rays.
Retinoic acid makes the skin more sensitive to light, which is why a sun cream with a sun protection factor of at least 15 is recommended. Without sun protection, the condition of the skin worsens.
Visible success in the form of skin improvement can be seen within a few months of regular use.
It also works well against stretch marks.
Occasionally, the skin may become dry and reddened during application due to the peeling effect of the retinoic acid ointment. This is no cause for concern, but if the redness or itching becomes unbearable, you should consult a dermatologist immediately.
Retinoic acid treatment is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Glycolic acid

Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid, which is also often referred to as fruit acid, as it is found naturally in fruit, among other things.
Glycolic acid has proven itself as a skin peeling by rubbing off dead skin cells. It also produces collagen, which is needed for skin cell renewal.
Like vitamin A acid, the application of glycolic acid also increases the skin's sensitivity to light. The application of sun cream with at least sun protection factor 15 is also recommended.
It has a weaker effect than VAS, so the treatment takes longer. However, glycolic acid is also gentler on the skin and causes less redness and itching.
