How do pimples develop

Squeeze pimples
Pimples are a nasty thing that doesn't just torment teenagers. Adults also suffer from the painful inflammatory lumps known as acne.
Acne can have many causes, so a dermatologist must be consulted for the correct treatment of acne.

These are the most common causes of spots:

All skin types, even dry skin, can be affected by pimples. The sebaceous glands produce more oil, which cannot penetrate through clogged pores and form acids. Foci of inflammation develop.

Hormones

Hormones are the cause of acne in most teenagers. The body develops and becomes sexually mature, the hormones go crazy. If there is an excess of male hormones in the body, the production of skin oil is stimulated in the sebaceous glands. Dead skin cells clog the pores and prevent the oil from escaping.

However, the change in hormone levels when you stop taking the contraceptive pill can also stimulate sebum production.

External factors

Stress is bad for the skin. People under stress tend to overproduce sebum and clog skin pores.

Smokers are particularly prone to acne. Medication is rarely the cause of pimples, such as cortisone or a high-dose vitamin B preparation.

Treatment of acne

The core of the treatment is the reduction of sebum production and the removal of skin flakes in the pores.

If your skin is rather dry, the dermatologist will often prescribe a certain contraceptive pill.

Oily and/or inflamed skin can be treated with antibiotic ointments or gels containing azelaic acid, which unclog the pores without drying out the skin.

Laser therapy can alleviate inflammation and reduce sebaceous glands and acne scars.
Photodynamic therapy first sensitises the acne bacteria with an ointment. This is followed by treatment with a yellow laser.
