A rounded face often makes the whole body appear fatter. Conversely, a slim face makes the whole figure look slimmer. You can make your face look slimmer with make-up, accessories and hairstyle.

 

Hair styling

Longer hair is more favourable for a round face. Short hair draws the eye entirely to the facial features and makes the face look fuller. The hair should fall at least below the chin and be cut in a layered style. A few strands should deliberately fall over the cheeks to conceal curves and visually elongate the face. Straight fringes should be avoided; it is better to style the fringes away from the face.

Accessories

Hair clips, barrettes or headbands on the head elongate the face. Accessories in the hair draw the eye to the hair and less to the face.
Long earrings make the face look longer. Small stud earrings and wide, round earrings should be avoided as they have the opposite effect.

Make-up

Using a large contour brush, apply face powder to the chin and jawline in a shade one to two shades darker than the complexion. Work from the chin upwards towards the ears. This accentuates the jawline and hides the double chin.
The cheekbones should be visually emphasised. When applying make-up, suck the cheeks inwards and apply the face powder underneath the cheekbones. Proceed from the centre of the cheekbones to the ear.
Emphasising the eyes draws attention to them and away from the padded cheeks. Small piggy eyes make the face appear all the rounder. Emphasise and enlarge the eyes with eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara.

For the man

A skilfully trimmed beard gives the face the desired contours. Keep the beard hair short and cut at an angle. The beard hair can be slightly longer in the chin area to make the face appear longer.
