Are lip balms addictive?

Lip care

Lip balms are supposed to be addictive, which means that if you start greasing your lips once, you have to keep re-greasing them because your lips get used to it. Is that true?

Generally speaking, lip balms are not addictive. It depends on which moisturiser you use. If you use lip balms with mineral oils such as paraffin, you have to reapply frequently because the oil is not absorbed into the lips. The oil remains on the skin so that the skin underneath continues to dry out.

Lip balms with natural fats such as beeswax or shea butter are better suited to keeping lips supple even in winter. The natural fats are absorbed deep into the skin and keep the lips well moisturised. This means you only have to moisturise occasionally when the effect wears off and the lips start to dry out again due to the cold and humidity.
