Not every hair type should be washed daily. It also depends on the shampoo used, because some shampoos are not suitable for daily hair washing. The most important thing for beautiful hair is to choose the hair care product not only according to the hair type, but also according to the scalp type.
The scalp has about the same needs as the skin on the whole body, because it has a similar structure. Many manufacturers use co-surfactants, sugar surfactants and saponins in their products to improve skin tolerance and prevent scalp irritation.
Silicone-containing shampoos are used to make the hair easy to comb after washing and to give it a beautiful shine. However, they literally seal the hair and scalp so that vitamins and minerals can no longer take effect. Therefore, shampoos with silicone should only be used occasionally.
Allergic reactions or irritations can lead to a tense scalp. Care products with nettle, royal jelly and liquorice root and omega fatty acids from evening primrose oil and linoleic acid help against scalp irritation.
Which shampoo is suitable for which purpose?
Volume Shampoo
Volumising shampoo is used to support fine hair. It contains molecules that wrap around the hair and plump it up. Extracts of carob, hops and wheat proteins are usually used.
Anti-dandruff shampoo
Dandruff is horny cells that detach from the scalp. The anti-dandruff shampoo contains anti-fungal and soothing substances such as willow bark, cornflower, walnut, sage, witch hazel and rosemary. It is recommended not to use anti-dandruff shampoos daily because they can dry out the hair and irritate the scalp. It is better to use the anti-dandruff shampoo once a week and use an alternative product in between.
Anti-grease shampoo
Very oily hair needs to be washed more often to prevent it from looking stringy. Anti-oily shampoos contain tanning agents that tighten the pores of the scalp and thus reduce sebum production. They also roughen the hair so that it sticks together less.
If you have a very oily scalp, you should avoid intensive head massages that stimulate sebum production.
Colour shampoo
Coloured hair is highly stressed and therefore needs more conditioning agents. Colour shampoos usually contain cocoa butter or avocado oil. To protect the stressed hair from UV radiation, colour shampoos contain a UV filter. Caffeine strengthens the hair roots and stimulates blood circulation.
Build-up shampoo
Build-up shampoo is for dry, damaged and stressed hair. It contains high-quality oils (shea butter, avocado oil, wheat germ oil, macademia nut oil), soy proteins and phospholipids. These penetrate the damaged hair and protect it from further damage as well as smoothing the hair shaft.
Exfoliating shampoo
Exfoliating shampoo removes care residues from styling products and ensures that the hair can better absorb the care substances. This makes the hair look fresh and loose again after washing. Before colouring the hair, it is worth using an exfoliating shampoo so that the dyes are absorbed more evenly by the hair.
Dry shampoo
Dry shampoo should only be used when water is scarce or when travelling. Dry shampoo can also be applied to the hair roots to specifically degrease them. It contains clay, rice starch and silica that absorb sebum as well as essential oils that have an antibacterial effect. The shampoo is sprayed into dry hair and brushed out again after one minute. This makes the hair more manageable and easier to style. However, dry shampoo does not replace shampooing in the long run, so it should only be used as an interim solution.
