Wrinkles on the face, what can be done about them

Wrinkled face
From a certain age, it is normal for us to develop wrinkles, initially mostly on the face, especially around the eyes, forehead and corners of the mouth.

Although there are countless creams and remedies to stop this, with increasing age the number of wrinkles, or their depth, increases anyway, the process can be slowed down, but not stopped.

Researchers have so far explained why this is the case, but they are still coming up with new findings, because our body and its system have not yet been fully researched. Too many factors play a role, too many substances and mechanisms are still undiscovered, or at least not yet decoded.

We know that the number of wrinkles increases particularly rapidly after the menopause, when the female body produces radically fewer oestrogens, which in turn influence the production of other substances.

Oestrogens are the hormones that primarily control the female body. Collagen and elastin, among other things, are responsible for the structure and cell renewal of the skin. They regulate the supporting function of the skin, i.e. they are the building blocks of the fibres that give the skin its density and firmness and ensure that it absorbs moisture and remains hydrated.

Over time, the skin becomes thinner and thinner, cell renewal slows down and the tissue loses its elasticity and generally becomes drier. The skin lacks important nutrients that are simply no longer produced or are less available.

We know these facts from cosmetics adverts and we also know that natural substances and replicas of important skin components can slow down the ageing process somewhat. However, we also know that you can never really rejuvenate yourself, but we still like to believe that these products can work wonders.

But what can we do to counteract ageing without cosmetics?

You can train the skin together with the muscles. For the face, this means that the muscles under the skin should be exercised once or twice a day to tighten the overlying skin as well.

You should avoid wrinkling parts of the face instead of stretching them, so the skin should remain as smooth as possible when the muscles are tensed.

To do this, simultaneously open your mouth wide, pull your eyelids upwards, pull your cheeks upwards and tense your muscles, hold for a few seconds, then rest for a few seconds, then repeat the exercise.

This exercise is best done in front of a mirror and repeated a few times until your face feels "toned".

Afterwards, apply a moisturising product to the skin. You can start and end the day like this and will soon realise that your skin actually benefits from exercising the underlying muscles.
