Treatment of stress in animals
In serious cases, the vet should always be consulted. As every animal reacts differently to treatment, here are some suggestions for treatment. Of course, the stress-inducing factor must be eliminated if possible.
- The animal needs a place of refuge where it feels safe and secure. The place must be "his", warm and offer sufficient space.
- Play with the animal a lot to keep it active. Take dogs for a long walk at least twice a day.
- give you the opportunity to race.
- Vary walking routes. The dog needs interesting and new input.
- Regular bathing and brushing, lots of stroking and affection.
- Talk to the animal frequently.
- Never shout at or hit the animal, as this will make the stress symptoms worse.
- In the event of separation anxiety or aggressive behaviour, consult a vet, as medication may be necessary.
