The buyer is deliberately led to believe that each individual stone has this carat weight. Ask the seller for the total carat weight of the jewellery.<br \/>The jeweller may round up the weight according to the usual rules. So if a diamond is stated as \u00be carat, it may be between \u00bd and \u00be carat, but leaning more towards \u00be carat. <\/p>\n<p>Often a diamond also seems to be worth more through a better-sounding name than in reality. The name \"blue-white diamond\" sounds so exotic and special that a buyer is easily misled into thinking that the stone is particularly valuable. In reality, however, a blue-white diamond is of inferior quality to the \"conventional\" diamond. <\/p>\n<p>In jewellery shops you will always find very bright lighting, which makes the diamonds sparkle especially. Ask the salesperson to let you look at the diamond in darker lighting.<\/p>\n<p>Unscrupulous jewellers often take advantage of customers who ask for appreciation of one of their own diamonds or pieces of jewellery. The jeweller often quotes a much lower value and offers the customer an exchange with a \"more valuable\" diamond. If you want an appraisal of your diamond, go to several jewellery shops and compare the results.<\/p>\n<p>A particularly dirty trick of some jewellers is to exchange the diamond you have already paid for for an inferior stone. So be careful if you leave a diamond in the shop to have it set into a necklace, for example. The only way to avoid this scam is to go to an absolutely trustworthy jeweller. Avoid jewellery shops where you are not yet known as a customer.<\/p>\n<p>There are, of course, countless other types of fraud involving jewellery and diamonds. Be on your guard and don't trust anyone too quickly.
