For newcomers, lighting a cigar can be a daunting task. After all, you don't want to embarrass yourself, as cigars are not only smoked for enjoyment, but also as a status symbol. <\/p>\n

Here are tips on how to light your first cigar as a beginner.<\/p>\n

If possible, use cedar matches. If you prefer to use a lighter, use one filled with butane gas to avoid strong odours.<\/p>\n

Slowly heat the \"foot\" of the cigar, the open end, over the flame without touching the flame itself. Hold the cigar over the flame until a blackish ring forms around the end of the cigar.<\/p>\n

Place the cigar in your mouth and carefully take your first puff. Continue to hold the cigar about one centimetre above the flame. Continue to draw on the cigar until the end ignites. Turn the cigar slowly so that it burns evenly.<\/p>\n

Once the cigar is lit, take it out of your mouth and look at the burning area. If the end of the cigar does not seem to be burning evenly, blow on the areas that have not yet been lit to speed up the embers. You can then take two or three puffs on the cigar in succession to make the embers even.<\/p>\n
