It lies about 11 kilometres from the mainland in the North Sea and is considered by many to be a paradise. Sylt is synonymous with fine sandy beaches, dunes and marvellous panoramic views over the seemingly endless North Sea.

What is so special about the island of Sylt? We show you the most beautiful places on the holiday island and here you can find out which place is right for you.

Discover Sylt and its sights. Here are the most worthwhile places on the island.

Westerland

Westerland is a place full of activities, a place to see and be seen, but also ideal for relaxing and unwinding. The heart of Sylt beats here in Westerland. There are nightclubs, theatres, cinemas, traditional North Frisian evening events and dance evenings. No matter where you are on Sylt, the sea is never far away. In Westerland, for example, you can stroll along the promenade and enjoy the sandy beach. There are playgrounds for children and adults who are young at heart. Watch the waves from your beach chair and breathe in the fresh sea air. There are around 4000 beach chairs on the 7 km long beach. Here you can go for a walk or a bike ride.

List stands for nature and a relaxed harbour atmosphere. List has shifting sand dunes, fantastic scenery, a colourful harbour and, of course, a sandy beach. There are beaches here for every sun worshipper, whether family or naturist. Swimming and beach activities are very popular here. There is a beach sauna on the road to Ellenbogen where you can walk naked into the sea after a sauna bath.

Wenningstedt-Braderup

Here you will find romantic relaxation. Wenningstedt is the northernmost health resort in Germany. Wenningstedt lies between the red and white cliffs, between the North Sea surf and the Wadden Sea. There are numerous upmarket spas in the ancient town centre. Every kind of recreation is available here, such as cycling, horse riding, swimming, tennis, minigolf, beach gymnastics, table tennis and hiking.

Hörnum

Hörnum is located in the very south of the island and offers the Wadden Sea, a harbour with a lighthouse and a long sandy beach. Here you can rent accommodation directly on the beach.

Sylt East

Rural atmosphere close to the Wadden Sea, the green lung of the island. Sylt East comprises the villages of Archsum, Keitum, Morsum, Munkmarsch and Tinnum. The traditional Frisian village is surrounded by marshland and nature. The Morsum cliff tells the ancient story of Frisian nature.
Tinnum is a popular holiday destination for families. It is home to Germany's largest bird paradise and the historic Tinnumburg castle. There are plenty of sporting activities and a lovely shopping centre.

Kampen

Kampen is all about contrasts. This is where the rich and famous meet, but you can also find rural simplicity here. Here you will find typical Frisian architecture, rugged nature, exclusive restaurants and designer boutiques.

Rantum

Rantum is a cosy little village with authentic hotels and restaurants, hidden behind a fascinating dune landscape.
