Not only dogs, cats and horses can be affected, but also humans can be infected with parasites and usually do not even know where their stomach and intestinal complaints come from. Typical symptoms of parasite infestation in humans and how to get rid of them can be found here.

What are the most common symptoms of parasites in the intestine?

Frequent colic-like pain in the stomach and intestinal area, diarrhoea, intestinal cramps, weight loss, loss of appetite, cough, headache, general fatigue, slight fever, vomiting and pallor. Often affected people suffer from insomnia and when they do sleep, it is with their eyes half open. The general malaise leads to irritability and even outbursts of anger.

How to get infected with parasites in the intestine

Parasites live in the soil outdoors. You can get infected with worms if parasite-infested soil or mud gets into your mouth. This can happen if your hands are dirty and you eat afterwards without washing them.

Another possibility is when you come into contact with parasite eggs from already infected people or animals and they enter your body.

How to find out if you have worms

If even some of the previously mentioned symptoms appear, it is reasonable to suspect that worms have settled in the stomach or intestines. If the condition is left untreated, it can have severe health consequences and even be fatal. It is therefore important to make a diagnosis in time.

When defecating, one sees small whitish particles in worm infections; these are worm eggs that are excreted with the faeces. To be sure, the doctor should take a stool sample and test for parasite infestation.

What can you do against tapeworms, roundworms or pinworms in humans?

There are medicines that the doctor can prescribe that kill and flush out the parasites. Some of these medicines are available over the counter at the pharmacy. As with animals, humans can also get preventive worming treatments to prevent parasite infestations. If you prefer to use home remedies rather than pharmaceutical drugs, you can also try these natural remedies at home:

Natural home remedies against parasites in the intestine

Soak two to three crushed garlic cloves in a cup of water overnight. The next morning, drink the garlic water on an empty stomach. You can take out the garlic pieces beforehand or swallow them.

Restrict the diet to onions, garlic, avocado and nuts for one day. This deprives the parasites of food and they die and are excreted.

Drink a cup of a mixture of mint tea, ground garlic and milk on an empty stomach for a few days.

Over a period of 10 days, drink a cup of herbal tea made from chamomile, thyme and gentian in the morning on an empty stomach.

How to prevent parasite infection

Worm infestation can be avoided through hygiene and caution. Hands should be washed thoroughly before every meal or handling of food. If there is an infected person in the same household, the toilet seat should be disinfected before each use. The infected person should not prepare food for others for the duration of the infection.

Each person in the household should use their own towel. Towels for drying hands after hand washing should be changed daily and washed at a minimum of 60 degrees.

The affected person's laundry should be washed separately and at a minimum of 60 degrees.

Parasiten wie Bandwürmer, Spulwürmer oder Madenwürmer treten häufiger auf, als die meisten denken.
