Parents need to consciously relax in between, otherwise their nerves will no longer be able to cope.

Parents with too much nervous tension are not able to devote themselves 100 per cent to their family when they need to, and their mental, emotional and physical health will pay a high price if they do not learn to relax in time.

It's great if both parents can give each other a neck and shoulder massage when they realise that they are stressed. If this is not possible, self-massage can also help. In particular, you should concentrate on the areas that are noticeably tense, such as the neck, shoulders and back. This is not just about relaxing the muscles, the massage movements calm the nervous system and release the happiness hormone oxytocin in the brain.

A walk in the fresh air does wonders every now and then. If the children are busy, walk through the park for a quarter of an hour and consciously take in the scents of the environment. Alternatively, it's also good to sit on the balcony and literally shut out noise and stress for a few minutes.

The greater the stress, the more problems you can have falling asleep. It is therefore advisable to listen to meditative and relaxing music half an hour before going to bed to calm your nerves. Sit comfortably on the sofa and soak up the music with your eyes closed.

Daily exercise is necessary to relax the nerves and muscles. It doesn't have to be a power sport, the important thing is to exercise regularly and have fun. Take a short bike ride and leave the car at home.

If you have the feeling that everything is just getting too much and you are losing track, it helps to plan your duties and prioritise them in good time and for the long term. Less important things can often be eliminated or postponed. If you make a list of tasks that need to be completed the evening before, prioritised according to importance, you can structure your day and approach it in a calmer and more relaxed manner.

Don't just think about the children when it comes to good nutrition! Just because you have to eat quickly doesn't mean you should eat less good food for yourself. The body can cope better with stress if it gets the nutrients it needs.

Breathing exercises are a useful and effective method to combat acute stress. If the children are driving you up the wall again, take a deep breath and make sure you breathe out for a long time, breathe in for 4 seconds, breathe out for 7 seconds and repeat several times. The brain releases mechanisms to calm the nerves through the consciously prolonged exhalation.

Väter und Mütter sind über Jahre hinweg starkem Stress ausgesetzt, während sie ihre Kinder durch das Leben leiten.
