A cavity forms in between, which fills with tissue water. The skin becomes reddened and bulges. This irritates the nerves that cause the burning sensation and pain.
Continuing to walk with a blister can be very painful and take days, so it is better to treat the wound as soon as possible.

A closed blister should not be pierced, as germs can enter the wound and cause an infection. It is best to stick on a special blister plaster (available in pharmacies), which has a soft gel-filled interior that keeps the irritated skin moisturised and allows the blister to heal more quickly. The sore area is also protected from dirt and bacteria, making it easier to walk.

If the blister has already opened due to friction, the wound must first be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. It is best to use iodine (Betadine) or Octenidin for this. Dab the area dry with a gauze compress and then apply the blister plaster.

If the bladder starts to fester and yellow fluid leaks out, it is better to see a doctor, as it may be an infection that can later lead to blood poisoning.
The doctor can lance the bladder with sterile instruments and squeeze out the purulent fluid.

Avoidance of blistering

The main causes of blisters on the foot are shoes that are too tight or not yet worn, sock creases or sweaty feet.
When buying new shoes, it is important to make sure that the toes have enough room and that the shoe does not pinch. Each new shoe should be worn slowly to allow the foot to get used to it and the material of the shoe to adapt to the foot.
The socks should not be too big so that they do not form creases that can cause friction. There are anatomically moulded socks that adapt individually to the shape of the foot. Socks should also be made of breathable material to transport moisture to the outside and prevent heat build-up.
If you have specific problem areas, you can apply a plaster to the affected area as a preventative measure when breaking in your shoes.
To give your feet a rest and let some air in, you should take off your shoes indoors and wear either light slippers or non-slip socks with nubs.

Das kennen wir alle: Die neuen Schuhe werden eingelaufen oder wir gehen auf eine Wanderung und plötzlich fängt es an der Ferse an zu brennen, der Anfang einer Blase.
