A myriad of different models are available on the market today and new models, different designs and alleged improvements are added every year.

When we were faced with the task of choosing a pushchair from the abundance on offer, we found it quite difficult. It took quite a while before we had worked our way through the shops to the point where we had 2 or 3 models on our shortlist.<\/p>\n

You should really take your time when looking at, testing and comparing pushchairs, otherwise it can quickly happen that you decide in favour of a model that later doesn't offer everything you would have liked.<\/p>\n

The questions you should ask yourself are as follows:<\/p>\n

Where will I use the pushchair most often?<\/p>\n

Do I use it in urban areas, do I often have to climb stairs with it, stow it in the car, push it through narrow doors?<\/p>\n

Then the best choice is a trolley that is as light as possible, manoeuvrable and quick to fold, narrow and with small wheels.<\/p>\n

It can be particularly strenuous if the folding system often jams, the pushchair requires a lot of handling until its frame is finally assembled and the actual attachment in which the baby is located is firmly locked into place.<\/p>\n

If you drive a lot, especially at the beginning, when the baby is asleep most of the time, an attachment can be useful, which you can transport from the pram into the car as it is, together with the baby, without having to get the baby out. These pushchairs have a wide belt inside the plastic shell, with which the baby is strapped in a lying position.<\/p>\n

This is not a baby car seat that resembles a car seat! These are particularly useful for older babies who also spend time awake in the car and usually want to see something of their surroundings instead of just lying flat.<\/p>\n

Baby car seats can also be used for the very youngest children, but I didn't find them practical for the first three months for the reason mentioned above, and the little head was still usually crooked, even if I put a neck roll underneath to prevent this.<\/p>\n

How much money do I want to invest in the pram?<\/strong><\/p>\n

This question becomes more and more difficult the more you look into the subject, because what happens is that in the course of the search you add more and more criteria to your list that a pushchair must fulfil. Above all, this means that you now classify appearance, colour, available extras such as rain cover or sunshade, well-known brand and test winner, e.g. at Stiftung Warentest, as absolutely essential.<\/p>\n

The choice is even more difficult now because it is almost impossible to combine everything in one pushchair, although in some cases it really does depend on the price. It is therefore useful to be clear well in advance about how much money you want to spend on the pushchair.<\/p>\n

Here's a tip: the extra accessories, especially from the well-known wagon brands, are usually very expensive when bought separately. If there are complete offers, these are highly recommended as they are much cheaper.<\/p>\n

When should I start choosing a pushchair?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Actually as early as possible. Not only to be able to look for the model that meets the requirements, but also to make sure that the pram can be delivered before the baby is born.<\/p>\n

Shops don't always have all pushchairs in stock and, especially with the latest models, many orders can lead to long delivery times as they are the most sought-after. It can be a few months before you can push the pram home.<\/p>\n

Are pushchairs recommended?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The term \"combi pushchair\" refers to those models whose large carrycot can be removed later to make a buggy. The buggy attachment can already be permanently attached to the frame or can be attached later when the large attachment is no longer needed. The latter prevents the buggy from getting dirty before you have even used it.<\/p>\n

You should also try out beforehand whether the pushchair folds just as well with its buggy attachment, as the locking system often catches more easily with the padded attachment. This was the case with my pushchair, which quickly became a thorn in my side.<\/p>\n

The last tip I would like to give here is that you should also consider who will be using the pushchair, as some grandmothers or aunts may not be able to cope with the seemingly child-friendly system or the weight. They should therefore be included in the choice if they also want to push the pushchair in front of them later on.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
