Parents who decide against certain vaccinations assume that the chances of contracting a certain disease are low, that the disease is more harmless than the vaccination itself, or that they are not well enough informed to take care of sufficient vaccination protection.

This is demonstrated by the numbers of vaccinated children, which are nowhere near the range desired by the health organisations, as in many cases little more than half of all children are vaccinated. This can result in a disease spreading more rapidly again, even though it had long been thought to be under control.

There are also cases of vaccine damage, especially in infancy, when the child's immune system is not yet fully developed. Vaccinations place a certain strain on the organism, especially that of a baby or small child. Triggered by too many vaccinations, simpler infectious diseases can then occur more frequently and recovery can be prolonged.

Nevertheless, adequate immunisation protection is important and should not be thwarted for the wrong reasons. Lay people, including most parents, should not make reckless decisions about whether or not to give their children the recommended immunisation, because the damage can be very serious.

Sufficient immunisation received as a child can also be important in adulthood, for example in pregnant women who would also endanger their unborn child if they were infected with rubella for the first time.

It is usually not possible to be re-vaccinated during pregnancy, so it is important to be adequately immunised beforehand.

Active and passive immunisation

There are two types of artificial immunisation or vaccination, active and passive.

The first method, active immunisation, means that slightly weakened living pathogens of a disease are vaccinated in order to ward off an external attack by these pathogens. The body forms antibodies and memory cells against diseases that have been contracted once, which recognise pathogens of the same type that invade the body again and prevent a new infection, i.e. the disease is simulated with this type of immunisation. For this reason, in some cases mild symptoms of the disease to be immunised may occur in the patient.

For many diseases, this form of immunisation lasts a lifetime, just as if the organism were naturally immunised by contracting the disease and living through it.

Unfortunately, this "trick" does not work with all pathogens, as some can always produce new mutated forms and also re-infect an organism that has already been infected or trigger new bouts of disease within it. Well-known examples of this are diseases such as malaria or AIDS.

If only antibodies, but not the pathogens of a disease, are injected into an organism, this is known as passive immunisation, which can allow an acute infection to heal more quickly or provide rapid vaccination protection, but whose effect is not guaranteed over a long period of time.

Since no memory cells are formed, the patient has not become permanently immune.

["517"],"_fgj2wp_old_id":["240
impfschutz – notwendig und sinnvoll?","impfschutz – notwendig und sinnvoll?
3245
1
immunisation-necessary-and-sensible
12

post-518","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-gesundheit","entry","has-media
["GET
