The quality of clothing has fallen, both in speciality shops and in brand shops. It is therefore worth checking the quality of your clothes before you go to the checkout so that you can enjoy them for as long as possible.

The general texture of the fabric and the manufacture of the end product are the first sign of quality. Check the clothing for the strength of the seams, buttons and sequins. If sequins are only glued on and not sewn on, they will fall off quickly. With cheap clothes, the seams and hems will come apart after just a few wears or washes. The key to a good seam is how thick the thread is. A thin thread tears easily. A double seam is of course better.
A crooked seam is not necessarily a sign of poor quality, but can rather indicate that the piece was sewn by hand.

Jeans in general are robust, but here too there are considerable differences in quality. With jeans, it is advisable to check the density of the fabric. The best way to do this is to hold the fabric up to the light. The more light shines through, the less tightly woven the fabric is. The denser the fabric, the longer the jeans will last.

Feel the fabric in your hand. Squeeze a piece together in your hand. Ideally, the fabric should feel comfortable and soft and leave little or no creases. Low-quality and less hard-wearing fabrics often feel rough and a little stiff.

Last but not least, it makes sense to take a look at the label. No matter how much the fabric feels like cashmere or angora, it may still be an imitation of polyester. This does not mean that goods made from polyester are generally of inferior quality, but this should be reflected in the price. Also be careful with cheap mass-produced goods, often the garment can only be washed by hand and not in the machine. This indicates that the fabric is not very durable.

Low-quality clothing can also be recognised by the fact that the designer has not spent much time on it. With good design, attention is paid to the details of the print, the stitching and the cut. Garments that have a lot of details such as extra pockets, prints or seams indicate how much time has gone into the design. The more time spent on the design, the better the overall quality is usually, as it is not worth the effort for the manufacturer to produce inferior quality.

Make sure that at least one extra button has been sewn to the inside of the garment in case you lose one.

Clothing today is no longer as hardwearing and durable as it was a few decades ago.
