Maybe you've just been annoyed that the calendar you bought only contains tasteless chocolate, then it's high time to make your own Christmas calendar for next Christmas that you can even use every year.

For this you need:

Pencil
Scissors
Glue, preferably specially for fabric
Felt in several colours: red, green, white, brown, approx. 2-3 DinA4 pieces each
Wool or string
Cotton wool
A large piece of cardboard, approx. DinA3
A jute sack, or enough brown fabric for the 24 bags
1 saucer
Tacks
Small surprises for the contents of the 24 bags

You can fill the Christmas calendar with sweets, but we recommend small surprises, such as pencil sharpeners, erasers, necklaces, bracelets, figurines, just about anything that children might like and that fits into small bags with a diameter of approx. 5 cm.

Now it's time to cut out the main motif from the cardboard and you should sketch it out with a pencil. We have chosen a Father Christmas that is easy to draw and leaves plenty of space for the bags. It could look something like this:

After sketching it out, cut it out. Now it's time to make your clothes. It is advisable to draw the individual sections onto the felt and then cut them out.

The face, beard and eyebrows are formed from pieces of cotton wool and glued in place. Cotton wool is also ideal for the bobble on the hat.

The bags are now cut out of the jute sack by drawing circles with a saucer and then cutting them out, which are then tied together at the top with a piece of string. Of course, this is only done once the contents have been placed inside. For 24 December, you can use a larger template so that a larger and particularly attractive surprise fits inside.

Now the bags still need to be numbered. You can also cut the numbers out of felt and stick them on each bag.

These bags are now attached to the Christmas calendar with a drawing pin. Alternatively, to minimise the risk of injury to small children, you can drill holes in the Christmas calendar, through which the end of the thread is inserted and then knotted at the back so that the bag remains secure.

Now December can come and this Christmas calendar is sure to bring the children much more joy than any conventional bought calendar. After all, you know what's inside and have customised the contents to suit your little ones and their age.

Christmas will soon be here again, and if not soon, a year is shorter than you think.
