Modern progress often makes them seem insecure and retarded. But people always forget that these people have accumulated a long life experience and that we can learn from their advice in some respects.

Live every day as if it were your last, recommends a lady whose life was changed by the early death of her mother. Enjoy life, but look to the future with one eye. The goal is to end your twilight years without regrets. One should not forget the beauty of everyday things and find joy in sunsets, flowers, nature and children playing.

Most people learn sooner or later to lead a content and successful life. However, in many cases this insight comes too late to prevent painful mistakes. Valuable years are wasted in fruitless effort. Young people follow the promising career path and suppress their true passions.

Many mistakes are made by young parents on their children, as one knows from one's own childhood. They gnaw at their children's self-esteem and self-confidence through punishments or pressure to pursue academic careers. Often parents try to make their children into what they themselves have not become. The children are pushed into careers and thus into ways of life for which they are not made.
One should learn to appreciate small sources of happiness and contentment and not rely on material things that only give temporary pleasure.

The most important thing in professional life is to follow your passion and enjoy working every day, even if you earn less. Even if it takes a while to find that profession, you should not give up. If you are temporarily stuck in a job that is not fun, you should make the best of it until it is time to move on. A promotion in a job you don't enjoy is good for your self-confidence and your wallet, but it shouldn't stop you from finding your dream job.

Modern life all too often has a negative effect on family life. Even if you have to make financial sacrifices, it is important to spend a lot of time with your children, otherwise you will later regret not having taken time. One should participate in their activities and learn from them what joy of life is.
Discipline is important for a community within the family, but corporal punishment has little effect and creates aggressive and antisocial tendencies in children.

One's own life partner should not be forgotten either. A happy marriage is based on shared interests, values and goals. Romance and physical attraction bring couples together, but it is friendship and respect that hold a lifelong partnership together. Communication, willingness to give and take, and respect for the marriage itself are important.

Growing old is a way of life and a learning process that should not be fought, but honoured. Don't waste your time worrying about getting old.
Many people who have led contented lives enjoy old age, despite chronic illnesses. They become calm and content and have learned to take each day as it comes. The beauty of old age, many older people say, is that they no longer focus on things that are unimportant, but find joy in everyday life. Each stage of life has opportunities that the previous one could not offer.

Avoid being alone in old age and maintain social contacts throughout your life. Show interest in other people and take advantage of opportunities to learn new things.

Against the fear of dying, it helps to prepare, organise necessary things, write a will and reduce the burden on those left behind.

Older people are often seen as ridiculous by younger people, because they come from a different time.
