To prevent your well-deserved annual holiday from turning into a nightmare, here are some travel tips:

When travelling with small children, you should avoid a climate that is too hot or too cold. One of the most popular destinations with or without children is still the sea with a beautiful sandy beach, as children love to play in the sand. It is best not to travel there during the hottest season, but rather in spring or late summer. Check the average temperatures of the destination before booking your trip.

If possible, avoid travelling during the school holidays. As long as the child is not at school, you should take advantage of the quieter travelling time and avoid stress caused by crowded places.

Young children get bored particularly quickly during long journeys. Ideally, they should have an active day before the journey and not get into the car or aeroplane fresh and rested, where they have to sit still for hours. This way, they are tired when they start travelling and hopefully spend most of the journey asleep. Nevertheless, don't necessarily travel late in the evening or at night, as interrupted sleep can quickly upset young children's mental balance, leaving them unable to calm down for hours.

A train journey is a popular means of transport for small children. Perhaps an exciting train journey on holiday is more suitable than the boring car.

Always have a bag full of snacks and drinks ready for the child, preferably with their favourite snacks. It is better not to rely on meals on the plane, as there is a high probability that the child will not want to eat them. Many parents also encounter difficulties when they arrive at their holiday destination, as their children don't even want to try the new and unfamiliar food. Look for foods in the supermarket that the child knows and likes, otherwise look for alternatives together with the child. For the changeover during the first few days, you should bring a selection of non-perishable foods in your suitcase that your child likes and knows.

If possible, book a hotel that offers activities for children. However, you need to pay attention to the age group, as the activities are often advertised for toddlers but are actually more suitable for three to four-year-old children. When travelling with small children, a typical tourist resort is a good holiday destination, as there are more child-friendly activities outside the hotel complex.
Take the time to go to playgrounds when you find them.

Don't forget to pack: The child's favourite cuddly toy. It is also a good idea to take the pillow from home with you so that the child has something familiar in unfamiliar surroundings. This will help them to rest better at night.

If you have the opportunity, you should travel with another family with children of the same age, so you can look after the children together and they can play together.

Even a short day trip with a small child can turn into stress.
