Sinusitis usually occurs after or together with a cold. The sinuses in the nose and cheek area become blocked and can become inflamed if the mucus is not removed.<\/p>\n
Sinusitis can be recognised by the feeling of pressure in the cheek area, above the eyes and around the nose. The discomfort increases when standing up, bending down or touching.<\/p>\n
Nasal sprays with the active ingredients xylometazoline or olymetazoline as well as essential oils help to alleviate the symptoms. However, nasal drops or nasal sprays should not be used for longer than four days without medical advice.<\/p>\n
Inhaling sea salt moisturises the mucous membranes and loosens congested secretions in the sinuses. Dissolve a tablespoon of sea salt in a litre of hot water and inhale the vapour deeply. After inhaling for around 15 minutes, take a break for half an hour and do not go out into the fresh air immediately after the steam bath.
Instead of sea salt, a steam bath with camomile, eucalyptus oil or tea tree oil helps.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The upper body should be slightly elevated when lying down. Irradiation with red light also supports healing.<\/p>\n
