The headache can occur hours after an accident or a blow to the head. Other symptoms that indicate concussion include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, temporary memory loss and brief unconsciousness immediately after the accident.<\/p>\n
If a concussion is suspected, you should lie in a cool place with your upper body slightly elevated. Excessive heat and exposure to light should be avoided. Under no circumstances should the affected person be left alone so that the emergency doctor can be called if necessary if the condition worsens or does not improve sufficiently. The affected person should drink mineral water or tea as soon as they are able. Solid food should be avoided until the nausea has subsided. The patient needs at least 24 hours bed rest with fresh air and loose clothing.<\/p>\n
If the headache does not improve and is accompanied by drowsiness and frequent vomiting, a doctor must be consulted. Concussions can lead to cerebral haemorrhages within a week, which can be fatal. The crucial time that the patient should remain under observation is 48 hours, with severe symptoms usually occurring in the first six hours after the accident if a brain haemorrhage or brain contusion is present.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Call an ambulance immediately if, in addition to headaches and nausea, cramps, freezing, accelerated breathing, marbled skin, paleness, racing pulse and bleeding from the mouth and nose occur.<\/p>\n
