It's Murphy's Law, they say, after \"anything that can go wrong, will go wrong\".&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But it's not just Murphy's Law that makes the bread and butter fall first, but the simple laws of physics.<\/p>\n<p>It is not the weight of the butter or the aerodynamic properties of the bread, but the drop height alone that is responsible for this.<\/p>\n<p>The sliding slice of bread turns too slowly to complete a full rotation at the height at which it falls from the table. It would have to fall from a height of more than three metres to be able to rotate 360 degrees. As the bread does not usually fall straight, but tilts at an angle from the corner of the table, it begins its rotation as it falls.<\/p>\n<p>This theory was calculated and tested at Ashton University in Birmingham by Robert Matthews.
