Unlike the other major religions, Hinduism does not have a prophet as its founder. Rather, it is a philosophical evolution that has developed and spread over centuries and been enriched by leading philosophers. Thus, Hinduism is considered to be the culmination of human thought.<\/p>\n
Essentially, Hinduism believes in the existence of an infinite supreme power (God). Hindus worship this power in various form representations such as the father or the mother and as the creator of the universe.<\/p>\n
The fundamental principle of Hinduism is that being good to other living beings is the highest form of worship to God. Conversely, hurting other beings is the worst sin.<\/p>\n
Hinduism is based on the so-called \"Vedas\", which name the basic commandments. The origin of the Vedas is not proven with certainty. One verse in the Vedas even states that the origin of humanity is unknown.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Hindu Mythology<\/strong><\/p>\n Hindu mythology embraces all beings, human, animal and plant. Hindus see oneness with all humanity, birds, mammals and plants. The tulsi tree is a sacred plant. The banyan tree is revered. Various plants like Arista, (meli azadirachta), Ashoka (Saraca indica), Punnag (Calophyllam inophyllum), Sirisa (Mimosa Sirissa) and Priyangu (Aglaia roxburgliana) promote household prosperity. Various deities own or use animals, especially birds. A vulture serves Rama (Kakbhushundi), a crow tells Rama's story and Shiva listens. Jamwant is a bear who fights Shri Krishna and then marries his daughter to him. Hanuman is a monkey and Rama says he is like his brother Bharat.
The eagle Garud belongs to Lord Vishnu. Shiva rides a bull.
The goddess Lakshmi has an owl. Ganesh, the divine being has an elephantine body and head. Shiva is crowned by a poisonous snake, while Durga rides a lion. Kartika rides a peacock.<\/p>\n
