At the top of the hill is a huge, gold-covered Buddha, about 100 metres above the coast and Jomtien.<\/p>\n<p>Only 40 years ago, Pattaya was just a small village with a few huts on the beach. The monks of Pattaya and the village of Jomtien, as well as financial support from some wealthy businessmen, initiated the construction of the Buddha. The construction took a year as it was built by hand. There are also the seven Buddhas, each representing a day of the week.
