Andorra is one of the small countries in Europe that is largely unknown to tourists. However, the small principality has a lot to offer in terms of scenery.<\/p>\n

The Principality of Andorra covers an area of 453 square kilometres and has around 65,000 inhabitants. In addition to the capital Andorra de Vella, the main towns are Les Escaldes i Engordany, Encamp and Sant Juli\u00e1 de L\u00f3ria.<\/p>\n

Andorra is the only country in the world where Catalan is the official language.<\/p>\n

Due to its altitude, Andorra has a typical mountain climate. The altitudes range from 840m to 2975m at its highest point, the Coma Pedrosa.<\/p>\n

The amount of precipitation is between 900 and 1000mm, with most of it falling in summer and winter. The lowest temperature is -17 degrees in winter, the average temperature in the cool summers is 15 degrees.<\/p>\n

The most important rivers in this small country are two branches of the River Valira: the Valira de Soldeu in the eastern part and the Valira d'Orient in the western part. The river arms flow together north of the capital Andorra de Vella. Near Les Escaldes is the pretty old bridge that spans the fast-flowing waters of the Gran Valira.<\/p>\n

Two fifths of the entire country is covered by forest. From an altitude of 1200 metres there are mainly pine trees, which are replaced by black pine from 1600 metres upwards. Above 2400 metres there are large areas of mountain meadows.<\/p>\n

The villages of Andorra are located at the bottom of the elongated valleys. The main access road crosses the most important centres of Sant Juli\u00e1 de L\u00f3ria, Andorra de Vella and Les Escaldes.<\/p>\n

In recent decades, Andorra has benefited greatly economically from the merger of the European countries. Due to reduced customs duties, Andorra has become a favourite market for France and Spain, which buy all kinds of goods there. Arts and crafts and the retail industry are among the country's main sources of income. The country receives around 20 million visitors every year.<\/p>\n
