The rate of aggression fell when the diet was improved. The improvements mainly related to less consumption of sweets and more foods with a high nutritional value.

As the correlations have not yet been reliably clarified - there is still a lack of sufficiently representative studies - opinions on the social impact are only tentatively formulated. For example, the findings that have already been made and are still hoped for are certainly relevant when it comes to reducing crime and social misbehaviour.

If this is directly linked to nutrition, especially for schoolchildren and prison inmates, serious thought must also be given to the consequences for the organisation of schools and prisons.

Is it possible to improve conditions in society as a whole by improving nutrition? Science is already convinced of this at this point in time. It assumes that the brain, like all other organs in the body, can only function optimally if it is supplied with all the nutrients it needs.

The brain primarily regulates our moods and so the direct link between nutrition and behaviour has already been established. 20% of the energy consumed through food is used by the brain alone. If this does not include any, or not enough, of the valuable and necessary vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids, the brain cannot perform as well as it could under optimal conditions. It has to be shown that the positive characteristics of a personality fall by the wayside and are replaced by undesirable behaviour, such as aggression, vandalism, quarrelsomeness, inattention, poor memory or disinterestedness and ignorance.

So what has sometimes been labelled as a bad character trait can actually be a deficiency caused by malnutrition over a long period of time, which manifests itself in increased aggression and generally anti-social behaviour.

It remains to be hoped that science can use its findings to influence politics to such an extent that it will regulate the improvement of the situation, because we can all benefit, directly or indirectly.

Healthy eating has an influence on general health and, if eaten incorrectly, on illnesses and various physical problems.
