The dishwashers consumed 15 litres of water and one kilowatt hour of electricity for one wash cycle. In contrast, the 113 test persons employed as manual dishwashers used 103 litres of water. <\/p>\n

Of course, the individual flushing method must be taken into account; there are people who flush under running water and those who flush with the same water in the sink. However, the 113 test subjects showed a variety of washing methods, the most economical of which used well over 15 litres of water. <\/p>\n

As far as washing-up liquid is concerned, it can also be assumed that dishwasher tablets release relatively low levels of harmful substances into the drainage water, especially if phosphate-free products are used. If you want to be even more environmentally friendly, replace the rinse aid with ordinary vinegar. The vinegar can simply be added to the rinse aid compartment. <\/p>\n

Many opponents of the dishwasher argue that the dishwasher consumes electricity, whether energy-efficient or not, while the person doing the washing up does not. This is countered by the fact that hot water is usually used for dishwashing and this water is heated in various energy-consuming ways. In most cases, these are electric water boilers. <\/p>\n
