This is a simple formula. This calorie deficit can be achieved through dieting and/or exercise. However, it is helpful to know how many calories you actually consume during physical exertion.

Tips for calculating calorie consumption

Light aerobics burns about 6 calories per minute. So after 30 minutes of aerobics you have burned about 180 calories. Jogging burns 11 calories per minute, walking 4 kcal and swimming 8.5.

The longer you do a sport in one go, the more calories you burn per minute.
For optimum calorie consumption, your heart rate should be elevated for at least 20 minutes. To burn calories most effectively, you need to learn to do your favourite sport for as long as possible within the ideal heart rate range. Endurance sports such as jogging, running, swimming, cycling and aerobics are best suited for this.

Calculate the average value of your metabolism. Even at rest, the body consumes calories. How many and how effectively the metabolism converts food into energy depends on gender, weight, height and age. The following formula is used to calculate the metabolic rate:

For women: BMR (Basic Metabolic Rate) = 655.1 + ( 9,563 x body weight in kg ) + ( 1,850 x height in cm ) - ( 4,676 x age in years )
For men: BMR = 66.5 + ( 13.75 x body weight in kg ) + ( 5.003 x height in cm ) - ( 6.775 x age in years )

The older you get, the lower your metabolic rate becomes, i.e. you burn fewer calories with the same physical exertion. To maintain your body weight, you must therefore either reduce your calorie intake or exercise more. Weight, body size, diet and habits can influence how quickly or slowly the body burns calories. With a slow metabolism, it takes longer to lose weight, while someone with a fast metabolism can eat more without gaining weight. Another factor is how much and how intensively you exercise and how healthy you eat.

To boost your energy consumption, you don't necessarily have to do more sport, but you can also change your lifestyle a little. Walk short distances rather than taking the car, take the stairs instead of the lift or get up and talk to a colleague at work instead of sending an email; the movements become more frequent and the energy requirement increases. Get active and burn calories faster!

If you want to lose weight, you have to consume more calories every day than your body consumes.
