A holiday alone can be very appealing, especially a backpacking trip across Europe, for example. The more people you take with you, the more different opinions you get. Everyone wants to see certain destinations and go on holiday in a certain way, which doesn't always suit everyone. That's why travelling alone is a good idea. <\/p>\n

But even the lone backpacker should find out about the rules of wild camping in the respective country before going on holiday to avoid getting into trouble. Even if a backpacking holiday with unknown destinations involves certain risks, there are at least as many advantages. Travelling freely by train and hiking through the countryside is one of the best ways to escape the daily routine at home. Few holidays offer as many adventures as an InterRail trip, for example. Nevertheless, the solo traveller must be aware that without a companion the risk is increased. As an inexperienced backpacker, you should therefore take a friend with you to be on the safe side. <\/p>\n

There are just a few rules to follow when planning a backpacking holiday, which will make the experience all the more enjoyable:<\/p>\n

1 First of all, you should be aware of the risks you are taking when travelling alone. This includes having to survive unpleasant situations alone. <\/p>\n

2. inform your family or a few friends of your approximate destinations and check in with them from time to time so that they know where you are. This may seem to restrict your freedom, but it is a huge relief, especially for your parents, and is also important in case something happens. <\/p>\n

3. the important things in your bag include your mobile phone and money as well as your ID. Always have a map to hand so that you know where the next place is in case you need to get there quickly. <\/p>\n

4 Whether male or female, a solo traveller is a sought-after victim for criminals. It's best to brush up on your self-defence skills before you travel.<\/p>\n

5. pack your rucksack carefully. When two people are travelling together, one person has usually packed what the other has forgotten. When travelling alone, you have to rely on your luggage. Pack what you need, but don't take too much. You only need to take small travel packs of all cosmetics. You don't need to carry every gram saved on your back. <\/p>\n

6. don't forget a first aid bag that you can use to treat yourself in the event of minor injuries. <\/p>\n

7 Depending on where you are travelling or hiking, a whistle can be useful. For example, you can draw attention to yourself if you are injured and cannot move on your own. <\/p>\n

8. if you get lonely on the road, make friends with other travellers. That way you can also give each other tips and share experiences.<\/p>\n

9. learn a few words of the local language when you go abroad. At least the most important words to communicate the essentials.<\/p>\n

10. memorise the country's emergency numbers. If something goes wrong, you may not have time or opportunity to find them out.<\/p>\n

11. never let your rucksack out of your sight and tie it to you when you sleep, because it contains everything you have at the moment.<\/p>\n

12 Have fun, but don't take too many risks. Don't make risky manoeuvres if there is no one around to help you in an emergency.  <\/p>\n
