Spatial vision, the quick adjustment of the pupil to three-dimensional objects, can atrophy or not even be developed properly if it is not practised from the beginning.

As with all muscles, the visual muscle needs to be trained in order to perform at full capacity. If this is not the case, or if it is used too one-sidedly, this leads on the one hand to less performance and even to the inability to perform certain functions successfully. On the other hand, more extensive problems can occur, such as headaches and migraines.

For the eyes, this means in concrete terms that one-sided use, e.g. by watching TV or using a computer screen, can lead to premature slackening of the optic nerve.

The eye as a sense organ

The eye needs light and stimuli, the so-called fixation points, which it seeks to generate the image. To test or improve the reaction and adaptability of your eye, try to get it to perform exceptionally well with small exercises. This has the effect of promoting the interaction between the eyes and the brain.

For example, try more often to look through a keyhole and see all the things behind a door.

You can also easily make your own glasses out of cardboard to practise this skill. Poke small holes in the "glasses" through which you have to look to make an overall picture. This is wonderful exercise for your eyes.

Seeing from different positions, or movement, also has a training effect, because the eye has to identify what it sees very differently from the information it is normally used to. This can be achieved by looking at things overhead, or from a swing, or see-saw.

Equally useful and even popular are pictures and games with optical illusions that give the eye a special task to recognise hidden things.

The workplace

Adjusting to distance and near vision requires sufficient training, but the working conditions should also be designed to be easy on the eyes.

For the workspace, this means that there should be enough light, preferably natural daylight. The desk is therefore best placed near a window.

The screen must have a minimum distance of 50-60cm, the gaze should be directed slightly downwards rather than upwards when looking at the monitor.

Indoor humidity also improves the condition of the eyes, and this should always be checked, but especially when we are sitting at the computer and concentrating on the screen. Blinking should also not be forgotten, as this also helps to prevent the eyes from becoming too dry.

General body condition

Tension in the neck area is also responsible for impaired vision. Massages with oils, or occasional wraps can work wonders.

Stress in general triggers malfunctions in the whole body, so also in the eyes. The more relaxed a person is, the better the condition of their eyes and their vision.
