Abstraction. Abstraction emerged in the 20th century and simplified forms by detaching them from the representational.<\/p>\n

Nude. Artistic representation of a naked human body.<\/p>\n

Applied art. Applied art for the decoration of objects.<\/p>\n

Art Noveau. French for \"new art\" around 1900, a secondary style of the Jugendstil.<\/p>\n

Avant-garde.vanguard of a new direction in art. <\/p>\n

Bauhaus. College of Design in Weimar, founded in 1919, moved to Dessau in 1925, to Berlin in 1932, closed in 1933. <\/p>\n

Blauer Reiter. Expressionist artists' group, founded in 1911, named after a painting by Kandinsky.<\/p>\n

Bridge. Artists' group from Dresden, founded in 1905, dissolved in 1913.<\/p>\n

Expressionism. Expressive art. Spiritual elements are depicted in an energetic, simplified form.<\/p>\n

Fauvism. Expressionist art movement in France. Special features are bright colours and simplified composition. <\/p>\n

Functionalism. Direction of architecture that focuses on practicality.<\/p>\n

Historicism. Imitation of historical styles of the 19th century; contrast to modern art.<\/p>\n

Impressionism. Art style in which the impression of the moment is depicted.<\/p>\n

Art Nouveau. Art movement around 1900 in which ornamental, moving forms were used. The name comes from the Munich magazine \"Jugend\".<\/p>\n

Classicism. Art movement in which classical elements were taken up and imitated.<\/p>\n

Constructivism. Art movement founded in 1915 in which only geometric forms are combined.<\/p>\n

Cubism. Art style in the early 20th century with its own laws and emphasis on the cubic.<\/p>\n

Liberty. Department stores' in London where Art Noveau items were sold around 1900, which is where they got their name from.<\/p>\n

Secession style. Art movement in Vienna between 1898 and 1918.<\/p>\n

Stijl. Dutch artist group with consistent constructivism, founded in 1917.<\/p>\n

Still life. Type of pictures in which immobile objects are depicted in artistic form.<\/p>\n

Symbolism. Style with intellectual significance, between 1880 and 1900.<\/p>\n
