Architrave. An architrave is a horizontal beam that rests directly on columns or pillars.
Arcades. Arch shapes that rest on columns or pillars.
Chiaroscuro. Light and dark. Form of depicting light and shadow used in painting.
Ridge turret. Turret on the roof ridge.
Fa\u00e7ade. Front view of the building, architecturally structured in the Renaissance and accentuated with decorative elements.
Bas-relief. Low relief depiction.
Fresco. A particular form of wall painting in which the lime paint is applied to the still-wet plaster so that the colour penetrates the wall and thus becomes an integral part of the building.
Frieze. Ornament that runs horizontally around a building.
Cornice. Stepped component that runs horizontally around the building to visually separate individual storeys or combine zones.
Gable. Crowning of the front of the building in a triangular shape.
Transom. Trapezoidal intermediate link between capital and arch.
Capital. Headpiece of pillars or columns.

Sfumato. Painting technique in which contours are blurred.
