A beautifully maintained lawn adorns every garden. To create a lawn, all you need is good soil, grass seed, a lawn mower, lawn fertiliser and a little patience.<\/p>\n
\nAfter the grass seeds are sown, the first germs sprout after about 5 to 10 days, depending on temperature, soil and humidity. There are about 10000 different types of grass, but only about 50 of them are suitable for a lawn. Depending on the use of the lawn, you should choose the right type of grass. If the lawn is going to be heavily used, a particularly hardy grass should be chosen; if the lawn is mainly ornamental, a finer variety can be planted. Seeding is best done in spring or autumn.<\/p>\n
It is quite normal for a lawn to have a variety of other plants starting to grow. With regular lawn mowing, the lawn will look neat even in spite of other plants or weeds such as clover, daisies, dandelions and chickweed. The weeds help the lawn to remain resilient, provided they do not smother the grass. If moss starts to spread between the grass, it should be controlled with moss killer, as it can suffocate the grass plants. <\/p>\n
Grass seeds should be sown on a loosened and well-fertilised soil. Two weeks after the first germination, the blades of grass will still appear sparse and thin, but they are already relatively long. When the individual blades are about 10cm long, you can mow the lawn for the first time. Cutting the long, thin blades stimulates the growth of the grass and makes the blades thicker. About three weeks after germination, you can mow the lawn once a week and walk on it carefully.
