The mistakes of previous generations have to be ironed out by future generations in order not to further damage and improve the environment. In order for our children to live in a clean and healthy environment, we should teach them environmental awareness from an early age.

The consequences of our actions

Children should be told at an early age what long-term damage pollution can cause. They should be made to understand that their own behaviour can help preserve and improve the environment. Every time a child wastes paper, it can be explained calmly and matter-of-factly that paper is made from trees that provide us with oxygen to breathe. In this way, children learn to be responsible with the planet's resources.

Recycling

Recycling paper, plastic or glass is a difficult concept for a young child. Nevertheless, one should patiently explain to the child over and over again which waste belongs in which bin. It is best to attach pictures to the different coloured recycling bins. Do not scold the child if he throws a piece into the wrong bin. Explain to him again where it belongs. In time, recycling will become second nature and automatic.

It is important that children learn from the very beginning that rubbish belongs in the rubbish bin and not on the street or by the wayside. Of course, adults must set a good example.

Environmentally friendly handicrafts

Crafting is a lot of fun for children, but unfortunately it also wastes a lot of material. However, you can also create imaginative handicrafts from old materials. The best thing to do is to set up a container for waste that can still be used as craft materials. Put everything in there that can be useful for handicrafts. It is also important to remember that paper can be used on both sides!

Children and nature

Children who are more familiar with nature will be more interested in environmental conservation. Take children to nature regularly and explain plants, animals and ecosystem to them.

Environmental awareness is one of the most important issues in today's society.
