If you want to approach someone you like (in a partnership sense), the fear of a no literally ties your throat. But first you have to find someone you would want to approach in the first place. Therefore, it is important to increase our entire circle of acquaintances.

During the school years, most people find it easy to make new friends and the first boyfriend/girlfriend is usually someone they know from school. But when they finish school, their social environment changes drastically. They work from 9am to 5pm, then go home, watch TV and maybe go out with the same friends once a week. A routine creeps in that repeats itself week after week, month after month. The inhibition threshold becomes greater and greater and at some point they no longer dare to break out of this cycle. Because they feel safe in the routine.

But if you don't break out of the routine and consciously look for new acquaintances, you become lonely and socially alienated. How do you escape this routine? How can you learn to approach strangers?

One option is to involve your relatives. Your relatives because they know you quite well. This allows them to act as a "filter". You tell them that you would like to meet new people, they talk to people they know, who in turn know other people who might know someone who could be a good match for you. It may seem a bit old-fashioned and embarrassing to let your family set you up with someone, but it gives you a good opportunity to meet someone who has already been "filtered" and who knows that you want to have contact with him/her. This way you don't have to worry about being turned down, because the other person wouldn't even be in the game if they weren't already interested.

Before you venture a step further and approach strangers directly, ask your friends or family for constructive criticism, e.g. on your appearance, your behaviour, etc. It helps to know how you are seen by other people. Just don't take it too much to heart when someone criticises you, just make sure you work on improving yourself. Whichever path you take, your chances are better if you work on yourself as much as possible.

There is probably someone in your direct or indirect circle of acquaintances who could fit the description "matchmaker". A matchmaker is someone who knows everyone and whom everyone knows. Statistically speaking, this person has the best chance of finding someone you get on well with. If you only know someone like this indirectly, let a mutual friend introduce you to them.

The most difficult method is undoubtedly to approach strangers directly. Start with places you know and go to regularly (perhaps the fitness club or a city park). This will give you a secure feeling and self-confidence. You'll more or less always see the same people there, which gives you time to get to know each other without the pressure of having to get a phone number, otherwise you may never see that person again.

Most men automatically feel uncomfortable at the thought of approaching a woman and asking for her phone number. They are terrified of rejection and humiliation and of looking ridiculous. This fear prevents them from even trying.

The best way to combat this is to simply approach ALL types of people. Start harmless and superficial conversations with everyone you meet, from postmen to supermarket shop assistants. It doesn't matter what you're talking about, it's all about "practising", gaining experience in dealing with strangers. The more you do this, the easier it will become day by day.

At some point it will become the most natural thing for you to make a harmless remark to the other people waiting at the bus stop.

Then, when you want to approach a woman you like, it will be the same for you, it won't feel any different because it has become second nature to you. It will make you seem more relaxed and she will get a completely different first impression of you.

Whatever way you try to learn how to deal with strangers, always remember that it is entirely up to YOU. Only YOU can change yourself.

„Es ist so schwierig, neue Leute kennenzulernen.“ Diese Bemerkung habt ihr sicher schon sehr oft gehört, vielleicht auch selbst geäußert.
