Dog paws suffer particularly in winter under the influence of the weather. Walking on wet roads, in the snow and on salt-covered paths dries out the paws and makes them sore and cracked.<\/p>\n

If the dog's paws are waxed before going for a walk, the sensitive pads are protected from the elements. The wax makes the paws supple and gives the dog better grip on slippery floors, even indoors. Dog paw wax is easy to mix at home.<\/p>\n

Beeswax, olive oil and borax are required for the wax. Melt the beeswax according to the instructions on the pack or in a bain-marie. Mix the olive oil with the beeswax in a 1:1 ratio and stir until the mixture has a consistency similar to whipped cream. Add a little borax to the mixture and stir well.<\/p>\n

The finished paw wax should be stored in an airtight container so that it remains fresh and soft and does not discolour. The wax is applied to the dog's paws like moisturiser and rubbed in thoroughly. As it dries, the wax forms a protective layer on the paws.<\/p>\n

The dog will probably try to lick the wax off the paws while it is still fresh. As the ingredients are natural, this is not harmful to the dog, but you should still discourage the dog from licking the wax layer to protect the paws.<\/p>\n
