In football, there are two different coloured cards which are held up by the referee to indicate fouls or intolerable behaviour. He carries these cards in his breast pocket, so if he reaches into his breast pocket, it is a bad sign for the player who has just fouled. The cards are about the same size as playing cards, one is red, the other yellow. When a card is held up, the referee stops the game and calls the player concerned over. Each time one of the two cards is held up, the opposing team is also awarded a free kick. <\/p>\n
The yellow card is a warning to the player that he is guilty of one of the following 7 offences.<\/p>\n
1. unsportsmanlike behaviour. This includes holding an opposing player or his clothing, deliberately obstructing, feigning injury, misleading remarks, harassment (e.g. loud shouting or gesticulating that distracts the opponent), obstructing the goalkeeper when throwing the ball in, threatening, any actions that deliberately distract the referee and behaviour that is unsportsmanlike in the eyes of the referee or gives an unfair advantage.<\/p>\n

3. constant breaking of the rules<\/p>\n
4. delay of the restart<\/p>\n
5. distance violation by defenders at corner kicks, free kicks or throw-ins<\/p>\n
6. entering or re-entering the pitch without the referee's permission<\/p>\n
7. deliberately leaving the pitch without the referee's permission<\/p>\n
A player who receives two yellow cards in football receives a red card and is sent off. A player who receives a yellow card is not sent off.<\/p>\n
A player who commits one of the following 7 offences in football must be shown a red card and sent off. A player who has been shown a red card and removed from the game may not be replaced by another player. The team then continues to play with fewer players. In some clubs, a player may be replaced by a substitute if he has received a red card for receiving two yellow cards.
